Tecmo targets West with new Warriors

The latest in the hit Dynasty Warriors franchise has been designed to appeal to Western gamers.

Publisher Tecmo Koei hopes that Warriors: Legends of Troy – which is set during the Trojan War – will appeal to US and European gamers who would be familiar with the setting.

Our main goal with Legends of Troy is to use the Trojan War setting to push out beyond the core Warriors fans and engage with action gamers that recognise the hallmarks of that war from history, film and TV,” said Tecmo Koei’s VP of sales and marketing Will Curley.

The game allows those type of people to get under a legendary warrior’s skin in the thick of these famous and bloody battles. We think this will be very appealing and generate a high level of interest and great sell-through.”

That’s not to say Tecmo Koei has given up on building Dynasty Warriors’ fanbase in the UK. Dynasty Warriors 7 lands one month after Troy and Curley is confident it will be another popular Dynasty title.

The Dynasty Warriors series has always been a million-seller in Japan but has been steadily growing in the UK and Europe over the past few years,” he said.

Previous entries such as DW6 and DW: Strikeforce have shipped hundreds of thousands of units across Europe and continue to sell.”

Legends of Troy will be released for Xbox 360 and PS3 on March 4th.
