The new team is being set up ahead of the arrival of the firm’s new Chief Executive, Philip Clarke.

Laura Wade-Gery has been named commercial director for non-food items, namely clothing, electronics and general merchandise. She previously headed up the company’s online business.

Per Bank, who is currently the grocer’s Hungarian chief, will become commercial director of Food, while Noel Robbins will move from his role as development and strategy director for Asia to become UK COO.

Kevin Grace (property director), Carolyn Bradley (marketing director), Mike Iddon (finance director), Judith Nelson (personnel director) and David North (head of coporate affairs), have also joined the Board.

They will all report to UK CEO Richard Brasher from March.
