The Witcher 2 confirmed for Europe

A sequel to The Witcher – scheduled for release next year – has been announced by Namco Bandai following the success of the PC original.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings is being produced by Polish developer CD Projekt RED which worked on the first title. It will be published across the EMEA and Asia Pacific.

The Witcher was originally released in 2007 and went on to sell over 1.5m copies worldwide. Its sequel continues the adventures of morally ambiguous witcher Geralt of Rivia and adds a new game engine and combat system.

We’re very excited and proud to be adding The Witcher 2 to our line-up for 2011,” said Namco Bandai VP of marketing, sales and publishing Olivier Comte.

CEO of CD Projekt RED Adam Kiciński added: We’ve already put a lot of sweat and love into the Witcher 2 which we think and hope will be one of the best ever RPGs.

We’re looking forward to sharing more details in the coming months.”

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings will be released for PC in 2011. Consumers can expect further announcements from Namco Bandai at this year’s E3.
