UK CHARTS: August 2011

The fact that Deus Ex is No.2 after just two days on sale says as much about the state of UK games retail as it does about the performance of the Square Enix RPG.

A lack of new games saw retail sales plunge last month, down 19.5 per cent over August 2010.

But don’t let that take away from 505 Games’ continued success with Zumba Fitness. The game topped the charts for August, which means it has been No.1 for an incredible three months on the trot.

Disney has two games in the Top Five – Cars 2 and LEGO Pirates. The latter was out in July but only managed No.13. Traditionally games based on Pixar movies have kept selling long after the movie is out, and that’s been the case here.
Speaking of long tails, Dirt 3 by Codemasters continues to sell long after its release. The game has been discounted by retail.

Harry Potter fever continues in the charts. But it isn’t EA’s official movie tie-in, released in July, that’s doing the most business, but Warner Bros’ LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4. A game that’s over a year old.
