UK Xbox gamers spend £64 a month

On average UK Xbox 360 gamers splurge 64 a month on their hobby according to Microsoft.

The format holder’s ad sales department – Microsoft Advertising – also found that 13 per cent of gamers spend more than 100 on 360 games each month.

The findings were part of a survey of 251 UK Xbox 360 gamers aged between 25 and 34 years old. The data was shared exclusively with MCV.

360 owners also play around seven different games each month on average.

83 per cent of Xbox 360 users game three to four times each week and 41 per cent play for three or four hours per day.

The most popular games are shooters, followed by racing and RPGs. One third of Xbox Live gamers play casual games or MMOs, and over a third play gambling titles. 360 gamers go online almost every day each week – by contrast, the average male checks websites five days a week.

Compared against the average male, gamers represent an attractive proposition for marketers,” says Microsoft Advertising’s head of research for data and analytics Julie Forey.

Earning a higher wage, being advocates of premium goods and over half playing for more than three hours each day, this provides firms with a profile from which they can base their message.”
