US: Pokemon sells 1.08m

Joint sales of Pokemon Black/White reached 1.08m copies on their first day of release in the US, Nintendo has announced.

The numbers make it the most successful day one ever for a new Pokemon title in the territory, beating the previous 780k record laid down by Diamond/Pearl in 2007.

Black/White also shattered UK records upon their release last Friday according to UKIE GfK Chart-Track.

"These sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems," Nintendo’s senior director of corporate communications Charlie Scibetta stated.

"Already established as the nation’s best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47m makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience."
