VIDEO: Kojima’s launch trailer for Metal Gear Solid V is here

Will this video stand as the last piece of Metal Gear Solid content Hideo Kojima ever makes?

With work having wrapped up on Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain ahead of its release next Tuesday (September 1st), the video below – which boldly declares it is directed and edited by Kojima himself – is far more than simply a launch trailer.

It feels every bit like a goodbye from the man itself.

The trailer spends as much time dwelling on the series’ rich nostalgia as it does on the new game. And surely it’s no coincidence that it all begins with a scene from Ground Zeroes in which Snake tosses the XOF logo – which just so happens to be the same as the Kojima Productions logo – out of a moving chopper.

The backdrop to the game’s release cannot be ignored, of course. It very much looks as if Hideo Kojima will be shown the door from Konami the minute the game is released. Some reckon it’s nothing more than a very expensive CGI storm in a teacup.

Only time will tell what the future holds for both Kojima and Metal Gear, although Konami has pledged that the series will continue regardless.

Here’s the video. Which, incidentally, appears to contain a robot with an erection:
