VIDEO: X Rebirth gets release date, promises radical overhaul

Cult PC developer Egosoft has at last confirmed what appears to be a firm release date for X Rebirth.

The epic space exploration sim is scheduled for release on PC in North America on November 15th. The studio has also released a highly impressive trailer for the game that can be seen below.

Rebirth will be the seventh release in the series, which dates back to 1999’s X: Beyond the Frontier. One of the many things it is known for is its typically inaccessible interface and steep learning curve – something that has supposedly been fixed for this new game.

In publisher Tri Synergy’s own words: X Rebirth no longer requires a PhD in advanced space game menus. Intuitive controls and streamlined and simple menus make for easy gameplay while not sacrificing any of the depth and complexity of the universe that awaits you.”

Rebirth itself has apparently been in development for seven years.

The scale of the game’s galaxy is matched by its open-ended gameplay, with players free to focus on exploration, combat or trading. A player’s in-game actions – such as the destruction of a space base or factory – will have consequences for the wider universe.

Players will also be free to construct buildings and explore the indie of space stations.

Our goal with the design of X Rebirth was to achieve a huge scale,” studio head Bernd Lehahn stated. I do not mean the physical size of the universe which is easy to increase. I am talking about a living, breathing futuristic universe crawling with life.”

With the likes of Star Citizen and Elite Dangerous also in the works, there is a lot to look forward to for fans of the space exploration genre.
