Vivendi completes Gameloft acquisition

The Guillemot family, who founded mobile studio Gameloft, have now sold its remaining share of the company to Vivendi, the Wall Street Journal reports.

The newspaper adds that the family took this decision with regret”, after the entertainment giant already took control of 56 per cent of Gameloft last week.

The family maintains that Vivendi’s hostile approach goes against the best interest of Gameloft, both for its activity and for its teams,”the Guillemot family commented.

Vivendi also controls 18 per cent of Ubisoft – another company created by the Guillemot family.

Ubisoft’s CEO Yves Guillemot told the French newspaper Le Monde earlier today that he will not let Vivendi break Ubisoft”, adding that the firm doesn’t understand video games.”

Guillemot had already described Vivendi’s approach as unsolicited and unwelcome” back in October.
