Xtreme Gaming cancels WCG, BYOC Winter events

E-sports organiser Xtreme Gaming has announced that it will not conduct the WCG India leg and the Winter edition of its BYOC LAN gaming competition this year.

Since its inception in 2007, this is the first BYOC (Bring Your Own Computer) event to be cancelled. Xtreme Gaming has been organising the India leg of WCG since 2011.

Speaking with MCV, Xtreme Gaming director Ashish Gupta said that the cancellations were forced by lack of corporate sponsorship along with increasing costs.

One of our main sponsors for WCG – a big corporate – was not interested in WCG this year, so we weren’t able to pull it off,” said Gupta.

As for BYOC, we had outlined a budget for the Winter event, which we weren’t able to raise. A lot of the brands that focus on gaming aren’t keen on the Indian market itself right now, so it’s not about them not wanting to support a particular event,” he added.

Gupta added, however, that this was a temporary setback, and that BYOC, and maybe even WCG, will be back in 2013.
