Remedy setting up third development team

Remedy Entertainment, creators of Max Payne, Alan Wake, and the upcoming Control, is building a third development team within the studio to work on an as-yet unannounced project.

Speaking with PC Games Insider, head of communications Thomas Puha said the Remedy of today is very different from the company of just five years ago: “We’re a multi-project studio,” he said, ”We’re slowly building a third team. With Control, it’s redefining Remedy again. We made two very linear story-driven games and again we’re going to have the story but in a game that’s a lot more adventurous. Hopefully, it’s something we can keep building more in the years to come. I feel very good about it. As a company, we’re in a very good place.”

Control was revealed back at E3 2018, with the upcoming project a mind-bending action title. Remedy also confirmed it had moved away from the Microsoft-backed project Quantum Break (as well as that it wasn’t returning – at least for the time being – to Alan Wake).

The studio has been growing quickly in recent years, and was listed on the NASDAQ First North Finland stock exchange after an IPO in 2017. “We were more concerned about the IPO before we did it,” Puha said, “Because especially some of the videos we put out tend to be pretty leftfield and quirky. We didn’t want to lose people – we were asking if we were able to do that as a publicly-listed company.”

Additionally, Remedy received an investment of €7.75 million (£7m) after signing a 20-year exclusivity deal with 505 Games for ‘Project 7’ – since revealed as Control.
