Cyber bullies spoil Christmas for Xbox and PlayStation

With almost 1m PS4 and Xbox One consoles nestled under UK gamer’s trees yesterday, Christmas Day 2014 was expected to be a successful one for Sony and Microsoft.

Yet both consoles were left unworkable yesterday and into today as both Xbox Live and PSN failed.

Hacker group Lizard Squad has taken responsibility for the downtime, citing no real reason for doing so. The group utilised a Distributed Denial-Of-Service (DDoS) attack on both networks. The group has since spent the day mocking furious Xbox and PlayStation owners.

Both Sony and Microsoft say they’re working hard on fixing the service, and at time of writing Xbox Live appears to be returning to normal service.
