Breakdown shows The Witcher 2 sold 1.1m whilst original sold 400k

1.5m copies sold in 2011 for Witcher franchise

CD Projekt Red revealed the 2011 sales figures for its Witcher franchise totaled over 1.5 million.

The Witcher 2, released for PC last year, sold over 1.1 million copies, and its predecessor, The Witcher, launched in 2007, sold over 400 thousand.

"We were all incredibly surprised by the number of copies sold," said Adam Badowski, head of the CD Projekt RED studio. "The Witcher 2 has garnered over 60 industry awards, and gamers seem to love it. I have to admit, though, that the sales results for The Witcher, 5 years on from the game’s premier, are remarkable. If anything, they prove that the content we put into our games ages well. I think that The Witcher will continue to generate buzz in the coming years."

CD Projekt plans to launch The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for Xbox 360 and PC on the 17th of April this year.

The new version will contain an additional four hours of content, including new animations and cinematics
