3.5m apps ‘downloaded daily’ on Nokia Ovi Store

Nokia has shown it is gaining momentum in the smartphone app market by announcing record daily downloads on its Ovi Store.

The telecoms group said that around 3.5 million apps are downloaded each day on its Ovi Store – a figure which has risen from 3m in November last year, and 2.3 million the prior October.

Nokia says game downloads represent a 40 per cent chunk of transactions, meaning that 1.4 million games are downloaded on the Ovi Store each day.

Figures relating to revenues were not disclosed. Nokia said nearly 100 game creators have had their games downloaded over a million times on the Ovi Store.

Elsewhere, Nokia claimed that its Ovi Store now enjoys a 90 per cent traffic-to-download conversion rate. It added that the average customer downloads 2.6 apps per visit.
