Achim Quinke resigns from Gamecity Hamburg

Achim Quinke, the founder and managing director of Gamecity Hamburg, has resigned after leading the support network for almost ten years.

Quinke has resigned from office at his own request to focus on expanding his PR agency, Quinke Networks, and furthering other interests.

Co-founder Stefan Klein has assumed sole project responsibility with immediate effect.

Jens Unrau from the State Chancellery’s Media Bureau will continue to act as project coordinator.

In 2003, Quinke’s university thesis provided the initial stimulus for launching Gamecity Hamburg. Together with Stefan Klein from the initiative Hamburg@work, he began the Gamecity Hamburg project, which subsequently proved to be a key asset in making Hamburg one of the most attractive games industry locations in Europe – read more about it in Develop’s Hamburg focus from earlier this year.

On taking his leave, Quinke said: “I would like to thank the local industry and my comrade-in-arms, Stefan Klein, as well as Jens Unrau from the State Chancellery, whose tireless efforts have led Gamecity Hamburg to success. I am certain that they will be able to defend Hamburg’s lead in the future.”

Carsten Brosda, head of the State Chancellery’s Media Bureau of the State of Hamburg, add: “Achim Quinke pioneered the business development activities in the games sector, and has thus played a pivotal role in strengthening Hamburg as a media location. I am truly grateful for his commitment and hope that he will continue contributing his invaluable expertise to the Initiative in the years to come.”

Yesterday’s Gamecity Sommertreff, attended by more than 300 games industry representatives, marked Achim Quinke’s official farewell.
