Aeria Games opens new studio in North America

German games firm Aeria Games has opened a new studio in San Francisco, establishing a stronger presence in North America.

The new office will “support and expand [Aeria’s] operations” in the US and Canada, according to GamaSutra. It will focus on marketing and improving the user acquisition for Aeria’s games.

The San Francisco branch will be led by Brett Orlanski, formerly of WildTangent and Grow Mobile.

While the company is currently headquartered in Berlin, it previously had a Californian base of operations when it was focused on MMOs, before it acquired Korean games portal Ijji Games in 2012. It later merged with Gamepot, a Japanese free-to-play games firm, and was acquired by German firm ProSiebenSat1 in 2014.

Aeria is best known for free-to-play titles such as Ragnarok Online 2.
