Customers have downloaded more than 18 billion apps, iPhone giant claims

Apple: App Store dev revenue tops $3 billion

iOS app developers have collectively made more than 3 billion in revenues, Apple has claimed.

That figure, subtracted after Apple’s own 30 per cent cut, suggests the iPhone manufacturer has made nearly a billion dollars from the apps it has published.

Scott Forstall, the senior vice president of iOS Software, said the surging revenues come from more than 18 billion app downloads.

More than one billion apps are downloaded each month, he said.

Forstall added that the App Store now holds more than 500,000 apps. About 140,000 are specifically designed for iPad, he added.

A recent study claimed that, presently, 72 per cent of iOS game revenue comes via virtual currency.
