Developers from 43 countries have applied for this year’s program, teams to be announced soon

Applications for Stugan accelerator double in 2016

Stugan, the Swedish games accelerator that famously sees developers building games in a remote woodland cabin, has received double the number of applications for this year’s program when compared to last year.

Stugan 2016 will begin on July 8th and run through to August 27th. The organisers report that developers have applied from 43 countries – which, they point out, are spread “across all continents outside of Antartica”.

These submissions are due to be whittled down to 20 developers, who will spend the seven weeks creating games for a range of genres and platforms with the help of Stugan’s mentors. The mentors hail from studios such as DICE, Mojang, Avalanche Studios, Resolution Games and more.

The news emerges as Stugan reveals it has found a new location for this year’s program. The new cabin will be found in Sweden’s Bjursas area, a popular ski destination in Falun, with the program overlooking Lake Bjursen.

“We are very excited to return to the Falun municipality for the 2016 program and this new location, which is just as scenic and inspiring as last year’s location,” said Stugan manager Jana Karlikova.

“We received twice as many applications as last year with an unprecedented level of quality and are now carefully going through them to pick the final participants.”
