Ayr College hopes to aid development skills shortage

In September Ayr College will start teaching a new Higher National Certificate in Computer Games Development. A HNC is rougly the equivalent of the first year of study in a university degree.

According to a report in The Daily Record, the course was created as a response to the industry’s trobule growing its talent based – and hopes to capitalise on Scotland’s role in creating leading games.

"Scotland is responsible for famous titles like the Grand Theft Auto series," said Jim Scullion, Computer Games Development course leader"

"This course will provide students with a new route to employment, progression to the Higher National Diploma (HND) Software Development or access to the second year of a Games Development degree at university."

Modules on the course include 3D animation, games design, programming, and a practical project. Applications to the course are open: more information can be found at www.ayrcoll.ac.uk.
