But developer stresses that this won't be Baldur's Gate 3

Beamdog creating new entry in Baldur’s Gate series

Beamdog, the studio behind the Enhanced Editions of Baldur’s Gate and its sequel, are working on a brand new entry in the series – but it’s not a sequel.

The project, codenamed Adventure Y, will instead be set in between the first two games. It will be built using the studio’s Infinity engine to ensure it retains the retro-yet-refined look of the Enhanced Baldur’s duo.

On the studio’s blog, Beamdog writer Amber Scott teased that more will be revealed about Adventure Y – including its release date – in late spring, adding that this project will involve "something bigger than we’ve ever done before".

She also addressed requests for the developer to make a true follow-up to Baldur’s Gate II.

"We’d be lying if we said we never think about doing a Baldur’s Gate III game, so we won’t say that," she wrote. "But we will say there’s nothing in the works yet regarding BGIII or a [D&D] 5th Edition game. That doesn’t mean the opportunity will never arise, though."

Finally, Scott mentioned that Beamdog would move on to its next project by late summer. The game is said to be "a departure for us in terms of what we’ve done in the past" and "might involve sharks".
