Long-awaited shooter becomes latest 2K game with release date extended

BioShock Infinite delayed to February 2013

Boston studio Irrational Games’ next title will not see light of day until February 26th next year, the group has announced.

The delay pushes BioShock Infinite’s release to the end of the current financial year.

Publisher 2K, which has a reputation for providing its studios with flexible timelines to build their blockbuster games, had previously set BioShock Infinite’s release date for October.

Irrational Games creative director Ken Levine said the delay is necessary for realising the project’s ambitions.

“When we announced the release date of BioShock Infinite in March, we felt pretty good about the timing,” Levine said in a message to the studio’s fans.

“Since then, we’ve come to realize that some specific tweaks and improvements will make Infinite into something even more extraordinary.”

The game will not be shown at trade shows in the interim, Levine added, to save more time on developing the project.
