Frank Gibeau talks up advantages of recent acquisition

BioWare tech to aid other EA studios?

In an interview with Business Week discussing the recently announced $860m acquisition of BioWare/Pandemic, EA Games’ label boss Frank Gibeau has said BioWare’s technology could be rolled out to other Electronic Arts teams.

The article states that ‘BioWare could become an incubator of innovative ideas and technologies that could eventually filter into EA’s other properties’, saying Gibeau wants EA teams to be sharing technology and ideas much more.

Specifically, BioWare’s dialogue system developed for Mass Effect (to be published by Microsoft) might be a good fit for other EA games, as well.

"The dialogue engine is something we will almost immediately look at as an asset for other teams," said Gibeau.

The article also speculates that BioWare, which yesterday announced it was working on a new project for LucasArts (which conjecture says is a Star Wars MMO), could take over the reins of EA’s struggling Lord of the Rings: The White Council MMO.
