Only blockbusters and indie curios are viable, says Epic design director

Bleszinski: The double-A game is dead

Cliff Bleszinski has claimed that any “middle class games” released are doomed to failure in the current market.

Speaking to developers at GDC 2011 in San Francisco last week, he said that only triple-A or indie titles can hope to see success because they stand out.

“I’m going to go on the record and say that I believe the middle class game is dead,” he said. “It needs to either be either an event movie – day one, company field trip, [Battle: Los Angles], we’re there. Avatar – we’re there. The Other Guys starring Will Ferrell and Marky Mark? Nah, I’ll f****** rent that, I don’t really care, right?”
