Proceeds from World of Warcraft 'cinder kitten' pet sales donated to Red Cross

Blizzard raises $2.3m for Hurricane Sandy relief

An in-game vanity item has become the source of $2.3 million in aid for superstorm Sandy survivors.

Blizzard revealed plans to sell virtual "cinder kitten" pets in its hit MMO World of Warcraft last month in response to the storm which devastated much of the US East Coast.

All proceeds from the sale of the igneous kitten were donated to the American Red Cross Superstorm Sandy relief effort.

The money will help provide food, clothing, and shelter for thousands effected by the disaster.
