Broadcaster opens new games IP to Portland-based devs and aspiring creators

Cartoon Network to host game jam

Cartoon Network Studios will be hosting its own Game Jam next week, giving developers the chance to get their hands on the firm’s newest brand.

The event will coincide with the launch of new mobile game OK K.O.! Lakewood Plaza Turbo, an action title based around a shopping mall for superheroes. Game Jam participants will be able to create their own games based on the Lakewood Plaza world and characters.

Open to developers, animators, artists, musicians and more, the game jam will be held in Portland, Oregon and run from Friday, February 12th to Sunday, February 14th – given games creators just 48 hours to build a new title from scratch.

Their creations will help influence the future of the Lakewood Plaza series, with one team winning a full creative contract to continue developing a full mobile game. Runners-up will have their projects published on CartoonNetwork.com.

“OK K.O.! is part of our development strategy to bring in cross discipline talent at creative inception,” chief content officer Rob Sorcher told Develop. “Our audience doesn’t live in a linear world –and neither will our content development process.”
