CCP opens new UK office

Iceland-based studio CCP has further expanded its operations by opening a new studio in Newcastle.

News site GamesIndustry.biz reports that the EVE Online developer will position its new North East team to work on various console projects. The news has been confirmed by CCP’s own jobs page, which shows several vacancies for the Newcastle studio.

It is said that CCP is looking to build a team of ten to 20 people, with suggestions that former staff from fallen studio Midway Newcastle will be joining the company.

Midway Games’ lead tools programmer Robert Troughton, for example, left Midway in June last year and was snapped up by CCP one month later. He now acts as a senior rendering and lead tools programmer.

It remains unknown whether CCP has established its latest UK base at the vacant Midway Newcastle offices.

Though headquartered in Reykjavik, Iceland, CCP remains an internationally-facing company. Its income is rarely brought in as the Icelandic currency Krona, but instead via dollars pounds and euros due to the lucrative subscription fees for online-based title Eve Online.

The firm’s CEO, Hilmar Petursson, said in 2008 that CCP has offices in Shanghai and Atlanta, but also in the UK city of Slough as well.

Thirteen years since it began operations, CCP is now looking to break into console development. The company is currently building its first FPS title, Dust 514, for a debut console release.
