New office to be headed up by director Russell Williams

Champions Online developer opens Seattle studio

Champions Online developer Cryptic Studios and online games publisher Perfect World Entertainment have opened a new studio in Seattle.

Called Cryptic North, the team is currently working with Cryptic Studios on the continued development of MMO Champions Online, as well as supporting work on Star Trek Online and Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter.

The studio will be headed up by director Russell Williams, who has previously worked at the likes of Microsoft Game Studios as program manager and at Flying Lab Software as CEO.

The developer said it had set up in Seattle to take advantage of the “rich talent pool” in the city’s development community.

“We are excited to welcome Russell Williams and the team at Cryptic North to the Perfect World family," said Perfect World CEO Alan Chen.

"Williams’ experience as a leader and creator of award-winning titles will play a critical role at Cryptic North and help grow Champions Online.”

Williams added: "I look forward to working closely with Perfect World and the talented developers at Cryptic Studios on Champions Online, Star Trek Online, Neverwinter and future projects.

"We’re already hard at work improving Champs."
