Chinese company acquires the rights to PvP MMO classic

Changyou to reboot Shadowbane

Chinese game developer Changyou has acquired the IP rights and source code for the classic PvP MMO Shadowbane.

Three years after Ubisoft shut down the Shadowbane servers, Changyou says it plans to re-launch the game as World of Shadowbane.

MMO Culture reported the game’s announcement at a press conference earlier this month alongside six other titles, and according to Chinagame 178, has been in development for over a year.

Shadowbane was groundbreaking at the time of its release for its approach to PvP, but was only available in China for a year before being shut down.
