Initiative to aid growth of local development hub

Creative England to launch GamesLab West Midlands

Creative England is set to launch a new initiative to support developers in the West Midlands.

Called GamesLab West Midlands, the program will offer investment and support for local studios to aid the growth of the region’s game development hub.

The scheme also plans to work with employers, students and other individuals in an effort to help create more jobs in the West Midlands and improve employee retention.

The initiative is funded by the European Regional Development Fund, and is supported by the Government’s Regional Growth Fund.

The GamesLab West Midlands initiative will run for the next two years.

The West Midlands scheme is similar to another initiative launched by Creative England last year for the South West, which offers £1 million in support for developers in the region.

Grants were available from £10,000 to £50,000 for console, desktop and mobile games. The closing date for applications for the South West GamesLab initative has passed however.
