Crytek release free SDK with integrated GUI tools

CryEngine 3 includes Autodesk Scaleform

Autodesk’s GUI development toolkit Scaleform is now integrated into CryEngine 3, Crytek has announced.

Crytek, the studio behind Crysis and its award-winning engine, will also make scaleform available in a free SDK to be released today.

Scaleform provides tools to help create a range of UI assets like mini-maps, heads-up displays, game menus, mission objectives, and flash projection.

"Crytek has worked exclusively with Scaleform for the last seven years," said Carl Jones, Director of Global Business Development for CryEngine

"Our licensees and community need top quality GUI solutions to match up to their ambitious goals with CryENGINE and Scaleform delivers that."

Crytek claims Scaleform has been used in more that 1,000 games, and that with this integration, it will be possible to interact with the UI elements through CryEngine in real time.

The update also includes Direct X 9 improvements such as parallax occlusion mapping, screen-space directional occlusion, and particle global illumination.
