Epic Games rival poised to reveal 'unifying technology for consoles, browsers and mobiles'

CryEngine on Flash a possibility, Crytek claims

Crytek is considering Flash as a future platform for its cutting-edge CryEngine, the company has claimed.

Carl Jones, who commands the company’s CryEngine business, said Crytek has a wider plan to support a broad range of platforms for its tech.

"We’re developing a unifying technology to create high quality social and gaming experiences on all platforms including browser, smartphones, and tablets,” Jones told Edge.

"We hope to be able to tell you more about it soon when we present our truly cross-platform solution,” he added.

Jones was speaking in response to the news that rival engine vendor Epic Games is supporting Flash Player 11 with its leading Unreal Engine.

"It is an interesting approach we’ve been investigating as well," Jones said.

Epic Games’ co-founder Tim Sweeney this week demonstrated Unreal Tournament 3 running on Flash Player 11 – a significant technological feat that brings modern game technology to browsers.

Flash Player 11 uses the PC’s own hardware to play high-end 3D graphics.

The new player, which launched this week, can render 2D and 3D graphics up to 1,000 times faster than its predecessor, Adobe claims.
