Dean Hall, the creator of smash hit zombie game DayZ, has shared a little more about his next move when he leaves Bohemia Interactive later this year.
Hall revealed back in February that he plans to leave the ARMA developer by 2015, with the goal of setting up a brand new studio in New Zealand.
Speaking to PCGamesN at E3 last week, the DayZ dev said this was still his ambition and he even has a place in mind: Queenstown, the "venture capital of New Zealand". Hall will use his experience with the surprise success of DayZ as a foundation for future projects.
"One of my lessons from DayZ is I didn’t spend enough time planning for success, and dramatic success, which mean there was a lot of reactivity," he said. "I see that in our dev blogs and, while it’s kind of cute sometimes, that we’re a bit disorganised, going forwards getting a bit more organised about doing those things before actually doing those things is important."
Hall went on to tease the world with hints at his next project, but don’t expect the spiritual successor to DayZ any time soon.
"I’m already prototyping two new games," he said. "One of them I was already working on before DayZ. It’s a tycoon game, which sounds really weird and random."
Hall once again stressed that his desire to leave Bohemia is nothing new, but much delayed.
"I was supposed to go for six months, this is my third year," he said. "It’s always rolling on by a few months, so you’re always just about to go home, and that’s exhausting."
