Designer Jon Shafer leaves Paradox Interactive after six months

Jon Shafer joined strategy specialists Paradox Interactive back in May 2017. Announced at the PDXCon event, Shafer joined from Firaxis where he served as lead developer on Civilization V. However this seemingly well-suited move has become short-lived.

In a statement released on Friday by Paradox Interactive’s executive vice president of studios, Mattia Lilja, Shafer and Paradox have mutually parted ways. Shafer was working on a brand new project with the team and there is no word about the future of that project. The studio has said that the reason for the parting was due to creative differences.

"Jon is an ambitious person with a lot of drive and passion and he has led some good discussions in our teams over the past few months", said Lilja. "However, during the course of these discussions, it has become clear that we want different things creatively and we have therefore taken the mutual decision that it is best to part ways. We wish Jon the very best in the next part of his career and would like to thank him for his efforts during his time with us."

Jon Shafer was also working on his own Kickstarter project, a strategy game called At The Gates, under the company name of Confier Games. Although the last update on the project was back in May before he joined Paradox so there is no news on how far development has progressed.
