More than half of the top ten devs were British – and that’s without recent indie hits

Develop Studios Sales Charts: UK developers dominate August

It’s been a good month for UK developers according to Develop’s breakdown of the world’s most successful games studios, measured by UK revenue at retail, with data provided by GfK Chart-Track.

As always, please note that digital sales are not included in these calculations, nor are retail transactions made outside the UK. The chart is intended to provide a snapshot of the most bankable studios in the world today.

Five of the top ten most successful developers in August were from the UK, with a sixth at No.13: Microsoft-owned Rare with its 30th anniversary compilation Rare Replay.

Leading the way was Traveller’s Tales, thanks to its latest LEGO title based on the Jurassic Park franchise, followed closed by Batman: Arkham Knight dev Rocksteady Studios and GTA V creator Rockstar North.

Codemasters’ Birmingham Studio was in sixth place with F1 2015, with 4J Studios squeezing in at No.10 off the continued success of Minecraft: Xbox Edition.

Since this data does not include digital sales, it unfortunately doesn’t include the latest wave of successes from the UK’s indie developers. The last month has seen the release of several acclaimed and popular titles, including Mike Bithell’s Volume, Size Five Games’ The Swindle and The Chinese Room’s Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture.

Directly below is the basic top ten but click on the image further down for the full top 20 including the studio’s best selling title for the month and which consoles it was sold to.
