The long-awaited update of the series’ most successful title is finally coming. No, seriously.

E3 2015: Final Fantasy VII Remake announced

PlayStation has just made an announcement that fans have been anticipating for years: Final Fantasy VII is being remade.

Announced during Sony’s E3 press conference, the most popular entry in the Square Enix series will be released first on PlayStation 4 – suggesting an Xbox One release at a later date.

A teaser trailer showed familiar locations and characters from the acclaimed JPRG, a title that helped put the original PlayStation on the map.

No other details were given, but it’s likely to have updated mechanics from later Final Fantasy titles, and the gritty tone of trailer suggests a revamped script.
