Studio of former Ensemble employees making new strategy title with cross-platform tech

Ex-Age of Empires devs working with Stardock

Former Age of Empires developers are working with the company behind Sins of a Solar Empire on a brand new strategy game.

BonusXP, a Texas-based mobile studio founded by ex-Ensemble employees, has signed a deal with Stardock Entertainment to create a new title for PC. The team will be led by Bruce Shelley, a former Civilization and Age of Empires dev, who recently joined BonusXP full-time.

The project will also use Stardock’s Project Tachyon cross-platform networking tech, according to Gamasutra. This system is the brainchild of a former Blizzard engineer who worked on Battle.net. It has yet to be tested, but is believed to be implemented in all Stardock-published titles as of next year.

BonusXP was originally founded to focus on casual mobile games, but this deal marks a return to the genre the team is best known for.
