Former Google exec Gary Briggs to lead firm's marketing operations for developers and users

Facebook appoints first chief marketing officer

Social networking giant Facebook has appointed its first chief marketing officer.

As reported by AdAge, ex-Google exec Gary Briggs replaces Eric Antonow, who had been operating as the company’s VP of product marketing.

The new CMO will be charge of leading the firm’s branding and marketing operations for developers, marketers and current and potential users. He will also oversee marketing events, communication design and content strategy.

“Facebook isn’t just a company,” said Briggs.

“For more than a billion people, it’s their connection to the friends and things they care about most. Telling the story of such an important and still very young brand is an incredible opportunity, and I cannot wait to get started.”

Briggs has previously worked at Google as VP of consumer marketing, as well as advisor to the CEO at Motorola Mobility.
