Notification changes cause gamers to flock away from social network site

Facebook games suffer user drop

Facebook has lost a substantial amount of its game users since altering its notification system, with FarmVille alone recording a dip of 4.4 million players.

Gamasutra first reported the story, noting that 18 of the top 25 Facebook games lost players in April – with 12 of those games losing at least a million users.

MindJolt Games took the biggest losses, dropping almost eight million gamers in all over several titles.

Facebook made the alterations, limiting the amount of user-base expanding notifications applications can send users and their friends, in order to make their titles more “streamlined, clear and less spammy.”
