Four days devoted to a country enjoying a development boom

Finland in focus

Starting today, over the next four days Develop is to make a live a series of articles that focus on Finland’s games industry.

Despite a population of just 5.3 million, Finland boasts over 50 game companies, including giants like Habbo Hotel creator Sulake and Digital Chocolate Sumea.

Game developers based in the Scandinavian territory also enjoy support from a forward thinking government that last year put €10 million towards research and development for the games industry.

In the lead feature for the Finland focus, we offer an overview of the country’s industry, and talk to those involved in bodies like Neogames and Tekes, which help developers secure government support.

The Finland Focus will also offer profiles of eight key Finnish Studios, all of which Develop visited in Helsinki to better understand their role in an industry proud of its efficent, open development techniques.

Check back everyday this week to see why the Finnish games industry is something every developer should be watching.
