UK based independent continuing the Stronghold series online, project to be self-funded

Firefly developing â??the worldâ??s first castle-based MMOâ?

London-based developer Firefly Studios has announced it is working on what it regards as “the world’s first castle-based MMO”.

Stronghold Kingdoms will be a continuation of the developer’s long-running work on the Stronghold series. Since 2001 Firefly has developed several Stronghold RTSes for the PC.

"What is exciting about Stronghold Kingdoms is not only are we taking Stronghold online and massively multiplayer, but we are funding this ourselves as an independent developer", said Firefly CEO Eric Ouellette.

The company has stated that Kingdoms will have a renewed emphasis on the community aspects of PC gaming, offering players global stats and rankings in what it has jovially termed the ‘medieval social network’.
