Former CD Projekt Red devs open UK studio

Two former CD Projekt Red developers have opened a new studio in the UK.

Called Wickerman Games, the start-up is headed by Chris Hardwick and Dan Cordell. The duo have worked at companies such as EA, Starbreeze, Codemasters and The Chinese Room.

The studio has yet to announce its debut project, but have said it will be inspired by pen and paper role-playing games. The team promises to be transparent about its development, allowing users access to prototypes, videos of the developers at work and weekly updates on what progress is being made.

Another key principle for the developer will be the concept of dynamic storytelling to give the player “as much freedom as the ruleset allows”.

“Layering simple systems on top of one another to allow for some truly emergent gameplay,” read a statement on the studio’s website.

“Choices should matter and have a dramatic effect on the outcome of the plot and as such the game world needs to be built in such a way to accommodate this.”
