GDC 09: Casual gaming specialist hires Gustaf Kellner

Former Skype exec joins Nonoba as COO

Former Skype and Joost executive Gustaf Kellner has joined casual games and community site Nonoba as the company’s COO.

Nonoba, which provides a community of Flash developers with an online portal on which to release their games, offers multiplayer and payment APIs that are free, open and work across the internet.

“I stole Gustaf from one of Skype’s technology providers to work with me at Skype, and I’m sure my old friend Niklas Zennstrom isn’t thrilled with this move, but Nonoba is experiencing significant expansion and growth right now and we need Gustaf’s experience and expertise,” said Jonas Kjellberg, chairman of Nonoba’s board of directors.

“Nonoba is truly a market leader when it comes to Flash development tools, and the beauty of our game-playing site is it isn’t just for teenage boys – nearly half our players today are women and more than a third of our registered users are over 25-years-old,” added Kellner. “There’s an explosion in demand now for low-cost sources of entertainment and socialising, so I’m confident Nonoba is in the right place at the right time.”

In his COO role Kellner will be responsible for business development and marketing in addition to overseeing operations worldwide for the company.
