Grammy-nominated composer will deliver Freeplay Independent Games Festival's Keynote address.

Freeplay announces Austin Wintory as Keynote

Austin Wintory, the first videogame composer to earn a Grammy Award nomination, will head to Melbourne in April to deliver the Keynote speech.

The event will being April 10 and run through to April 19, and it will be held all across Melbourne.

The composer behind titles like The Banner Saga, Journey and flOw, Austin Wintory headlines a packed schedule including a retrospective on 10 years of Australian indie gaming (hosted by comedian Lawrence Leung), a game jam (theme to be announced) and the Freeplay Fete, a new addition to the schedule with locally designed tabletop games, workshops and DIY game items.

Also announced today was pricing and ticket sales for the festival. A pass to all three ticketed events will cost AUD$55, though many elements of the Festival are completely free, including the aforementioned Fete.

“We’re incredibly pleased with how affordable and accessible we’ve managed to keep the festival,” said Dan Golding, Freeplay Director. “Despite being our biggest festival ever, 80% of our 2015 events are actually completely free. We’ve also got a huge number of events that will be live-streamed for free online, which means anyone in the world can make it to Freeplay 2015."
