Carnegie Mellon University to host second addressing â??growing skill shortageâ??

Game Education Summit returns for second year

Carnegie Mellon University is to host the second Games Education Summit, taking place June 16th to 17th, 2009, at the institution’s Entertainment Technology Center.

The event, organised by Game Path, is designed to bring together a range of academics representing university-based games education courses to address the development of programs and curriculum. In a statement released to the press, the organisers cite the event’s role as being to counter what is called a ‘critical and growing skill shortage in the industry’.

“Academic institutions of all kinds are rapidly compiling courses offering a variety of qualifications to people looking to enter the industry,” revealed Don Marinelli, executive producer of the Entertainment Technology Center. “It is essential that course design, content and teaching methods are focused on the same goal – developing a pipeline of highly qualified and motivated young people who can immediately contribute to the creativity and growth of the industry.”

The summit promises to bring together industry professionals at the venue in Pittsburgh to discuss topics including best practices for core curriculum courses, human resource requirements and teaching methodologies that enhance student performance.
