Development platform will also be available on Windows phone 8 later this year

GameMaker: Studio supporting Windows 8

YoYo Games’ cross-platform development environment GameMaker: Studio is coming to Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.

The engine allows developers to create titles in a single code base and export them to a variety of platforms including HTML5, Facebook, Android and iOS.

The development platform will be available to Windows 8 developers prior to the launch of the OS on October 26th.

Support for Windows Phone 8 meanwhile will be available later this year.

“We are thrilled to be working closely with Microsoft to launch GameMaker: Studio for Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8,” said YoYo Games CEO Sandy Duncan.

“The beauty with GameMaker: Studio is that it’s extremely easy for developers who have already or are currently developing with our environment to have Windows Style UI games ready for publishing on Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 in a short amount of time.”

Microsoft UK exec Anan Krishnan added: “We are excited that YoYo Games is bringing Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8 publishing to the GameMaker: Studio development community.

“We are looking forward to expanding the Windows 8 development community and the breadth of apps available across Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8.”
