Valve offering ten per cent discount off all tools for the first week

Games development software arrives on Steam

Software sales are now live on Valve’s Steam digital distribution platform.

The move to launch software sales on what is best known as the world’s largest digital game distributor was announced earlier this year at about the same time Microsoft revealed that Windows 8 would include its own digital store.

Valve is launching software sales with a characteristic discount of 10 percent for the first week.

Programs on offer include 3D coat, ArtRage, 3D Mark’s benchmarking tools, CameraBag 2, the open beta for Source Filmmaker, and Game Maker Studiio.

Game Maker was the first to go live, and as the remaining six titles have been added to the channel throughout the day, there very well could be more developer tools on the way.
