German publisher and distributor acquires independent studio formed by Rockstar Vienna chiefs

Games That Matter acquired by Koch Media

Austrian ndependent games production company Games That Matter – which was formed earlier this year by the founders of Rockstar Vienna – hasn’t stayed independent for long, having been acquired by German publisher Koch Media.

The studio was established by Hannes Seifert and Niki Laber, founders of Rockstar Vienna, and now merges with Koch’s publishing label Deep Silver.

The development house has been renamed Deep Silver Vienna, and will largely concentrate on creating games for consoles.

“With Koch Media, we found a strong partner who excellently complements our long-time experience and our new and innovative business model,” said Laber.

“Now we can fully concentrate on our core competencies.”

Rockstar Vienna worked on the likes of Max Payne.

General Manager of Koch Media Klemens Kundratitz added: “With the integration of Games That Matter, we enter a new era for Deep Silver.

“Deep Silver Vienna will massively push our reputation as an independent publisher.”
