Record number of companies attend world’s largest games trade show

Gamescom attracts 345,000 visitors, 2017 dates confirmed

The organisers behind Gamescom have revealed figures on the number of companies, countries and industry representatives that attended this year’s event.

Overall attendance matched that of last year – 345,000 people – from a total of 97 countries – up from 2015’s 96. Trade visitors was down slightly, however, from 33,200 to 30,500.

The number of companies in attendance set a new record at 877, up from 2015’s 806. The 877 companies included 272 exhibitors and 11 ‘additionally represented’ companies from Germany, as well as 589 exhibitors and five other firms from overseas.

“Gamescom is the most important business platform for the European computer and video games industry,” said Koelnmesse CEO and president Gerald Böse. “The renewed increase in the internationality of exhibitors confirm this leading position impressively. With 345,000 visitors from 97 countries on the fair grounds and more than 500,000 guests in the gamescom week, we made the theme of computer and video games experienceable in the exhibition halls and in the city."

Gamescom 2017 has been pulled forward slightly and will run from Tuesday, August 22nd to Saturday, August 26th. The show usually runs from Wednesday to Sunday.
