Ultima co-creator to discuss new industry transformations at August event in Cologne

Garriott to Keynote GDC Europe

Veteran programmer and entrepreneur Richard Garriott will deliver a social gaming keynote speech at this year’s GDC, event organiser UBM has announced.

Garriott’s keynote at the August event is entitled “The Three Eras of Gaming and Why This One is a Game Changer”, and thus will likely explore the industry’s rapid transformation fuelled by social and mobile games.

GDC Europe takes place in Cologne and runs August 15-17th.

Garriott’s speech will draw from his three full decades of work in games design – a career punctuated with high profile releases such as Ultima and – for better or worse – Tabula Rasa.

“There are few developers with Richard Garriott’s history, pedigree and vantage point,” said GDC Europe boss Frank Sliwka.
