Leipziger Messe cites financial troubles for â??necessary decisionâ?

GC Asia cancelled

This year’s GC Asia event has been cancelled, event organiser Leipziger Messe has announced.

The group said the closure was due to “the overall currently prevailing economic situation”, suggesting that tickets and sponsorship may have been problematic.

“It is a regrettable, but necessary decision”, said Jörg Zeissig, managing director of LMI Asia, a subsidiary of Leipziger Messe International.

The news comes in the wake of the Women In Games conference cancellation.

Eidos Life President Ian Livingstoine was set to make a keynote address at this year’s event.

“We will continue to keep an eye on the Asian games market so that we can pick up again with new concepts if this becomes appropriate,” added Zeissig.

Last year’s GC Asia event had brought in 80 exhibitors and over 100,000 visitors.
